Goal: Increase teamwork and collaboration to achieve results
Approach
In this work, we partner with our clients to determine teambuilding needs and jointly design the most effective approach to align and build a high performing team. We work with our clients over a period of time, building capability and independence in teambuilding. Depending on the needs of the team, we may take a more upfront or sideline facilitation role. We often work with teams as they engage in regular business meetings, offering recommendations for continuous improvement.
Many teams suffer from difficult interpersonal dynamics that often get in the way of productive work. We coach managers and team members to improve collaborative work and gently re-direct negative interpersonal behaviors or non-productive team habits. Our customized models, tools and teambuilding modules provide guidance and direction for individuals trying to work effectively together as a team. Our skilled professionals are experts at designing meetings for maximum productivity, eliminating costly re-work and gaining commitments from team members to follow-through on action items.
Interventions
Action Learning: In partnership with team members, data is collected (generally with in-depth interviews and/or surveys) regarding team strengths and opportunity areas. Feedback may come from team members, organizational leaders, internal/external colleagues and/or customers. Themes are shared with the team generally at a teambuilding session or retreat, followed by in-depth discussions, prioritization and action planning.
Leadership Offsite Retreats: Custom designed teambuilding retreats to encourage in-depth discussions and build collaboration among team members while working on strategic planning, visioning and goals, clarifying roles and responsibilities, and problem solving. Participants work on real issues with the help of skilled facilitators who offer models and tools to guide the process.
TeamStart: A fast moving team meeting to launch newly formed teams. Members align on the team mission and goals, define optimal leadership and peer accountabilities, assess current strengths and weaknesses, develop working agreements and commit to joint action plans.
Conflict Resolution: Consultation and facilitation to assist teams to build skills to work through conflict among team members or with other units, effectively leveraging differences and building common ground. Participants build working agreements and discuss what they need from each other in order to succeed.
Customized Meeting Design and Facilitation: To promote teamwork, open communication and action to achieve key business results. Skilled consultants assist in designing action-oriented meeting agendas and facilitating focused participatory discussions. We pose critical questions, surface assumptions, monitor working agreements, re-focus discussions that get off track and provide feedback to the group and/or individuals.
Myers-Briggs: Use of MBTI instruments to increase understanding regarding the different work preferences each member brings to the team. The determination of the Team type (overall preference of the team as a whole) encourages the group to understand likely strengths and team vulnerabilities.
